When is the official season?
The official training season is 12 months long and is broken down into the pre-season (January - March), regular season (April - September), and the post-season (October - December).
Where is the training?
Our weekly group swims and information seminars will take place at the Washington Park Natatorium. Spin classes will be held at the Adamsville Natatorium. Outdoor running will take place at the Silver Comet Trail, Piedmont Park, and Buckhead neighborhoods. Group bike rides will take place at the Silver Comet Trail, Stone Mountain, and Cartersville. Open water swims will take place at Lake Allatoona and Red Top Mountain. See the “TRAINING VENUES” link for more details and directions.
Do I need to be in shape to join the group?
No. This program is perfect for anyone who has a desire to challenge themselves and wants to build strength and stamina in a fun and structured group training environment. There is plenty of time to build your base, no matter how low it might be right now. Whether you have only dreamed of completing a triathlon or have done several, this program has something to offer you!
Do I have to be there every week?
All events are 100% optional. Some members will make it to all six group training sessions each week while others may only show up on occasion. Remember that this is just like anything else, you will get out what you put in. You need to determine what YOUR goals are for the season and work towards them. We will be here to help you as much as you want us to.
Can I train for a half or full marathon as part of my triathlon training?
Yes! In fact, you are encouraged to train for these events. Our schedules are specifically developed to allow you to achieve both your marathon and triathlon goals during the season.
I'm not a member. Do you allow drop-ins?
Sure. If you plan to drop-in please send an e-mail to AtlantaTriClub@yahoo.com and let a coach know when you have arrived at the session. You will be required to sign a medical release form and liability waiver.
What if I don't have a bike?
It does not matter that you do not own a bike right now. You can start off by doing our indoor cycling classes and borrow or rent a bike for our weekend rides. Eventually, you will need to buy a bike and we will give you lots of pointers to help you with your purchase.
What if I am a terrible swimmer?
If you can swim 25 meters (one length of a normal sized pool) non-stop, you will be fine. If you are not able to swim 25 meters non-stop, we can help you learn to swim. Also, we will be happy to give you some suggestions about who to contact for private or group swim lessons.
What if I am can’t run?
If you can run/walk one mile, you will be fine. There is plenty of time to build your endurance and speed.
What stuff do I really need to start?
For swimming you will need a sports swimsuit and goggles. For biking you will eventually need a bike and a helmet. For running you will need a good pair of running shoes.
If you have specific questions, please send an e-mail to AtlanaTriClub@yahoo.com.
